At the seasonal station
the train of life only pauses
departure depends on your duration
illusion of control blankets nature’s causes.
Days to nights shift and the engineer steers
hibernating bunks of linked sleepers softly
breathe away their past selves
rhythm of the planet moves through the years.
Travelers lulled to comforted right
cycle of no endings, wheels freely spin
balance tipped toward the night
untouchable by human error, solstice arrives again.

The cycle of life – beginnings and endings. I ride the trains a lot, and have reflected on the never ending cycle too.

Mabel,
Great to hear from you. I haven’t been blogging as much lately. I am reinventing my life and going through some big changes.
I appreciate your thoughtful reflections on my poems. It is always interesting to hear what you find in my words. Life is a series of seasons and some are hard to endure while others float by almost too quickly.
I hope all is well in your part of the world. Peace to you.

I hope things are going well for you and are on top of the changes 🙂 I also haven’t been blogging much…have been enjoying time away from here. Sometimes we have to give time to life, life that is reality.
Enjoy this season, Ali. Keep writing poetry and thanks for sharing with us 🙂

I like the thought that our sense of control is an illusion and how this is presented in the last line that the solstice comes regardless of what we do.

I like that there is an engineer steering. They seem out of place. their steering, unnecessary, redundant even. Lots to ponder in these meagre words. A veritable feast of thoughts. Thanks for recharging my batteries, Air!

Kelvin, thank you for your response. I hope my poems open doors to pondering. That is what I hope to give my readers.
Spellcheck isn’t always helpful is it? But I knew what you meant.
Have a wonderful day.

Beautiful as always, Ali. I loved this line especially: “Travelers lulled to comforted right”. It reminds me of an Annie Dillard quote that goes something like this: we should row our boats to the edge of the darkness, but we all seem to be diddling around playing pinochle in the bottom of the rowboat.
