Quarantine Quadrille – poem by Ali Grimshaw

As the virus
careens,
spinning down
our long road.

The dust has yet
to settle
from the wheels

Slow motion,
particles falling,
We sift sillily
through,
glittered remembering.

Was that last week?

As I am here,
reaching
you are there,
still
only through airwaves.

  1. These times are very challenging, mostly because no one really knows what the future will bring. But I have to have faith that we will find our way through this, globally, and that when we do, things will be a bit different but not necessarily worse. Meanwhile, we do what we can to hang on and to support each other. Your blog is one of the ways I cope, and I thank you for that!

    1. Oh Ann, you made my day. I will keep writing and sharing words of hope. The future hasn’t happened yet and there are so many possibilities of positive outcomes from this challenging time. I am focusing on acts of love and one day at a time. Thanks for letting me know that my poems are reaching out to you. Take good care of yourself.

  2. I apologise for reading and commenting the day after the prompt, but I had no WiFi on my laptop last night and commenting on my Kindle didn’t work very well and I had to give up!
Your Quarantine Quadrille resonated with me, especially the lines:
    ‘As I am here,
    reaching
    you are there,
    still
    only through airwaves.’
There is a sense of disconnect, even when we clap together or wave at one another from windows. The future is so uncertain, all we have left are memories of ‘before the virus’. Better hang on to that glitter in the dust.

No need to apologize. I always appreciate hearing what resonates for others as they read one of my poems. Thank you for your thoughtful attention.
The glitter is there amongst the dust. We just need to keep looking for it.
Writing is one way we can process all that we are going through. Take care.

    1. Gillena,
Thanks for reading. Yes, for some this has been an opportunity to write or say what may never have gotten around to being communicated.

      Sending love back your way.

    1. Writing is helping me process all of this. Life is a fascinating journey with lots of ups and downs. I try to keep my eyes on the good.
I hope those shoppers are still appreciating you. Thanks for reading.

    1. I can’t imagine going through pandemics in the past where people didn’t have the ability to communicate by text, zoom, email, phone calls etc. At least I can find out if my loved ones are ok.
Keep on writing, Ivor. I like reading your poems.
