This is exquisitely drawn! Especially love; “Veins will remain long after the delicate sections have disassembled themselves to join the soil for another cycle.”💝💝
Ali,
Your references to the autumn leaves as “elders” “sheltering seedlings” anthropomorphized this perennial occurrence in a singular way, giving it a benevolence that is both startling and comforting.
Pax,
Dora
Oh, this is lovely, Ali. “With empty arms while full of life within.” And the title is so fitting, how brief beauty is! Or rather the splendour of it at its peak.
The image alone echoes the chaos theory at work in nature. It reminds me of a programme I watched recently about autumn leaves, how we’re all so quick to sweep them away but if you leave them in a bag or a pile to break down and crumble, they become the lushest most mineral-rich soil ever. Though you have to wait a few months!
Ingrid, thank you for sharing your reflection. It’s always interesting to hear what speaks to someone. I hope we can learn from the wisdom that nature provides.

“Stages and ages of crimson edges” – a line that encapuslates so concisely – loved how your took the fragments of leaves to make this poem

Love it… I think when the time comes I would be happy to do as the leaves and give myself up for the benefit of those seedlings.
