It is a continual process to unweave
that which is truth from story. I pull
a thread, remove one line, observe how
the fabric changes, notice the new spaces
breathing between essential threads
that remain, a skeleton of existence
until extracting the unneeded
leaves what is left, sparsely resilient
penetrable light of a future once blocked
by memories tightly woven.

You said that so much better than I ever could, but I agree with it completely! We do have to set aside some of our memories (which may or may not be real) in order to get at the truth. And only then can we move forward.

Ann,
Someone once said, getting older is unavoidable, growing wiser is optional. We all have a choice to learn from our past and step forward with greater understanding. I appreciate your willingness to reflect and grow. It comes through in your writing.
Take care.

Vivid imagery. The following phrase is particularly descriptive and memorable: “penetrable light of a future once blocked by memories tightly woven.”

Magarisa,
I appreciate your reflection. This poem is about the experience of looking deeply into my reality and exploring my thinking. It is very satisfying to me that this line called out to you. Poetry is a powerful vehicle for us to seek understanding in each other. Keep on writing.

I think you would like my workshop. It is not about creating perfect writing. It is all about using writing as a tool to reflect and gain insight into our own thinking. Let me know if you’d like to write some time over Skype. I would like to try that.

Thank you Ali. I find writing to be helpful to clarify and express what’s inside bubbling around. 🙂 I’ll consider your offer. Thanks.
