four bicycles, four riders "let's make a memory" breezes of golden summer delight our pedaling legs freedom like five-year-olds without wonderings for tomorrow (half-way across the bridge I pause to snap this photo even knowing it will never capture this preciousness) coasting clear of any fear spontaeous spirits led us here four of us riding toward a view in transition one point of light arriving at a time © Ali Grimshaw 2023
This photo was indeed taken halfway across the Brooklyn Bridge in the summer of 2019. It is a memory I treasure.
I love the sensation of motion and freedom you’ve captured in your poem. Love the photo too 🙂

I love the line, ”coasting clear of any fear” as it reminds me that you can’t let fear stop you from living your best life. It can hinder our ability to enjoy experiences or stop us dead in our tracks and prevent us from trying new things that we know deep down our good for us. Thanks for sharing and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

Aiva,
Thanks for your reflection. It is possible to coast past fear and head straight into the arms of love. Poetry helps me get there.
Wishing you wellness and peace.

And this is why, although we have been out of Brooklyn for so many years, Brooklyn will always be home. People don’t understand how Brooklynites feel. Brooklyn is in our blood. Brooklyn is an Essence.

I truly love hearing the poems you write about living there. It sounds like a community rich with cultures. I look forward to seeing it through your eyes again someday.
Be well.

That is a beautiful photo of your trip to the Brooklyn Bridge some summers ago, Ali. What a gorgeous sky. Reading your poem I felt like I was there crossing the bridge with you on your bicycles. I love the last line, ‘one point of light arriving at a time’. The light will always shine, and we all have a light within us. I also like it when you said you felt freedom like five year olds…it is such a good feeling to be in touch with your inner child.
Hope you are doing well, Ali 🙂

Mabel,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful reflections. I always love hearing where it speaks to you. I’m just getting over round two of Covid. Just when I thought Covid was gone. I hope you are well and finding inspiration in your surroundings. ☮️
