In winter's grasp, we linger, longing for spring's embrace.
Does the waiting make arrival all the more precious?
A glowing light across the street reminds me of companionship.
Within these cold days gathering, we are the light for each other.
Together is our way forward toward blooming.
Often wintertide darkness can seem a season too long.
I cradle reminders of past flowers, new growth of green
wrapped in warm memories of meandering meadows wide.
While frost edges my windows in delicate design.
In winter's grasp, we linger, longing for spring's embrace.

During a dark, winter’s day, this is a comforting reminder that change will come. We experience four distinct seasons here as well and I think we especially appreciate Spring! This line made me long for more neighbourly interaction (which seems rare these days)….
“A glowing light across the street reminds me of companionship.”

Isolation can be a problem for many people during the dark days of winter. I think it’s so important for us to stay connected.

I feel it too, but slowly daylight is coming back, and it is getting warmer… we all are waiting for the release.

I think this poem beautifully captures the hope and warmth of friendship during the cold, dark days of winter. It’s like a cozy reminder that even in the chilliest times, there’s light and connection to be found. Really speaks to my heart.

My dear Ali, I am so appreciative of our friendship and getting these lovely poems from you. They bring me such joy. On an aside, I am currently reading Amanda Gorman’s book,”Call Us What We Carry.” What an extraordinary young woman. Her writing is that of an angel. Not sure if you’ve read this book yet. Have yourself a delightful weekend. And please forgive me as I will not be joining the two upcoming sessions. I hope to attend those you offer in April. HUGS! Fredda

Who isn’t harrowed by the long dark season, and yearns to warm, linger, be free again? You capture the immanence of spring so well here, an promised intimacy coming nearer.

I really enjoyed the shiver your poem gave me, Ali, even though I am ‘longing for spring’s embrace’ – I think the waiting does ‘make arrival all the more precious’. These lines are so hopeful:
‘I cradle reminders of past flowers, new growth of green
wrapped in warm memories of meandering meadows wide.’

Kim, thank you you for reflecting back the parts that spoke to you in this. I’m grateful to live in a place where there are four seasons each season does make me appreciate the next.

Dear Ali, As ever, a beautiful write. I very much resonate with this. Been there and felt it! Some lovely lines here and the edging forst and last line works really well too.
