Sometimes we push comfort away when we need it most. Fear keeps us from opening our arms. Desperate times are more difficult when you face them alone. Let someone see the true you and allow yourself to be comforted.

Your Numbers
What does it mean, the number you are?
Pounds or password,
23rd in line before your turn,
zip code, blood pressure, days traveled,
the years you have managed to
stay alive or times you have kept your mouth shut.
Texting mishaps, trips to the store, loves lost.
You may think these numbers
have power to direct your life.
Upside down thinking at its best.
This code of numbers is yours alone.
Deciphering it requires desire
not a Hollywood mastermind.
You have always known the way out.

Leadership from the Heart
Step away from this dark corner
let your heart lead the way.
Thinking in a box of fearful thoughts
afraid of the other,
leads to imprisonment with defined edges,
slashing at silhouettes that only appear
as the enemy.
Walk away from this shadow
follow the music of trust in love.
What you think is the opposition
is only just another
scared and searching
no different than the face in
your bathroom mirror each morning.

What Next?
When the questions hurt,
air thick with despair.
join together.

Hope
I see hope in your eyes.
A flash of light that has been absent.
Just a sliver of believing,
you never thought you could hold.
A small beacon inside,
beginning to send out its light
after a long darkness.

Free Yourself
Cut yourself free
from the weight of all not forgiven
a constricting of vitality, past failures squeeze
the tangle of rope, disallows a full breath.
Each memory binds, an internal tightening
of a time you did not stop it,
didn’t stand up tall for yourself.
Patterns of knots encircle your being.
Twisted, wound round, strangled voice.
If you would have been smarter, stronger, better …
If only you had been more.

The Answer
Now is not the time for tomorrow’s thinking.
Living for when I get there and happiness lands.
Someday solutions for formulaic bliss.
A machine of future making.
Now, is life.
Remove the heavy hat of suffering.
Hang up the wool coat that has been passed down to you.
Slip off the leaden shoes denying your right to skip.
Let your toes feel the mud between them.
Hear the sounds in this space.
Just be,
be your own answer.

Bursting to Life

After what seems like forever darkness
the light comes back again
each bud seeking warmth
layers begin to open
not because they were told, “It is time.”
facing the sun… their hearts knew.

The Field
A crack,
followed by a breaking open.
As the walls fall,
you will no longer be contained,
held separate.
Grieve and they shall crumble,
until the last stone is still.
Leaving you in a field of golden openness.
Wide and light.
No need for protection.
Bare.
In the warm air.
