Goodbyes, they come in all shapes and sizes. My poem, ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW, PLEASE, is about the complex feelings of saying goodbye to a child that has grown to adulthood. A huge thank you to Visual Verse for publishing it. Please follow the link to give it a read. Here. Visual Verse: An Anthology of Art and Words One image, one hour, 50-500 words. The picture is the starting point, the text is up to you. Consider submitting and reading the amazing pieces shared on this site. It is one of my favorites.

Beautiful, Ali. I have experienced that goodbye. Tears come easily with that poem.

So heartfelt! I think most parents can relate.
I think this image evoked a lot of interesting responses on VV.

VV definitely uses interesting images. Sometimes the words flow out so easily and other times I can’t relate to the image at all. I do love the writing that is shared there.

Thank you so much for posting here. This is wonderful. Any parent who has been through this leaving, will connect with this. You had me with the first line.
And congratulations on having it published in Visual Verse. Well deserved!

I love the sense of hope there is in the bright colors in the end. A bright red umbrella is what we all might need.

Oh my dearest Ali. This gripped my heart. Although my son is still local, I remember the day he decided to head to Europe and not return. My heart sank, but let him go. It was painful, but it was necessary. As you can tell, it didn’t work out, but at least he got to taste a new kind of freedom and adventure.
