Ali, you nailed it with likening war to a game for so many. The toll on human life, mental state, home, environment, are meaningless to them. They never have to get their hands bloody.
I am also happy that you are last on the list. Great poems and excellent points–all. Yours included. But all this about war being so bad has been a battle (pun intended).
I found it interesting that you used a card game in your poem. The first card game I can recall learning was called: “War.” Yikes!
“a deck forever altered by the missing” — indeed. The extended metaphor of a game is a bitter irony and cleverly expressed. It’s certainly a game to the powerful.
Thank you for reflecting back the words that spoke to you. While writing this I was thinking about the all of the violent language we use especially in playing games.
Wishing you peace.
Sadly some see war as a game.

There are no real winners in this game of war
only silent members lost
from a deck forever altered by the missing.

I like your thoughts on the tragedy of war. Perhaps our world is only playing with half a deck. All the face cards get removed in war!

It is such an overwhelming topic to write about and yet writing helps me to process the pain. Thanks for reading.
Wishing you peace.

And the wars keep on. We learn nothing from all the suffering. It is heartbreaking.

Sherry,
It is heartbreaking for me as well. We must never give up on learning how to create peace.

A war can never be won, you can only be the one who lose the least.
