Nature has a way of soothing the mind and calming the soul. When I’m there and connecting I can’t remember what it was that I was upset about. I’m excited to hang out with the butterflies when the start visiting my garden.
This is so beautiful Ali! It is the natural world that has kept my soul alive and vibrant, as my body diminishes. My 10-year-old grandson Alex, went on his first hike this weekend, along the Pacific NW coast, in the Olympic rainforest of Washington. He and his dad, my son Justin, discovered several wild waterfalls. Today he told about, in his words, his amazing adventure. “Papa” he said, “it is even cooler than a video game!” I cried as I listened to him gush.
I am struck by the structure of the poem….its flow. Beginning with two questions that draw the reader in…..and then saying “You don’t need to decide today.” I love this idea….of giving the gift of time….and then ending in such a beautiful, somewhat whimsical way….taking the pressure of that decision off and instead, adding the wonderment of considering a beautiful butterfly. Thanks so much for posting….I really enjoyed this one!
Ah, the complexities of healing and rediscovery! I love this gentle invitation to embrace vulnerability and find solace in shared moments of wonder and remembrance ❤
Thanks for sharing!
Those beautiful butterflies,
The magic of the invisible hands,
And your poem made them even more beautiful!!!

“You don’t need to decide today.”
I love how that slows the poem with its questions and then how you present a (quite lovely) solution. Very cool.
