Ephemeral – Poem by Ali Grimshaw

This calm is only an illusion
a photographic alteration
of a moment, where

leaves confetti-whirl, flutter fly, fancifully
surfing wild winds with surrender.

Smiling, I accept their invitation to frolic
following one golden riffle
then a tangerine-red

in beautiful celebration
of all things temporary.

  1. The first stanza makes me feel like all photos are lies in some way. Videos too, even our eyes. I think I may be in frame of mind of the poem I just wrote for Tuesday Poetics though.Anyway, your poem certainly triggered some thoughts. Thanks! 👏

  2. I love your ephemeral poem, Ali, with its illusion of calm, ‘a photographic alteration of a moment’, the alliterative ‘confetti-whirl, flutter fly, fancifully surfing’, and I would accept the invitation to frolic with those colourful leaves.
