Sunday afternoon meditation in the backyard

IMG_7405

Ok, breathe

ease back in the chair.

Breathe. Ahh. Blue sky in my backyard.

Oh no. Not leaf blower man.

                             I thought he moved.

Breathe. Let it all go. You are free.

See? It stopped. Listen to the birds.

Close your eyes.

Breathe.

What? Not again? This is noise pollution!

Slow. Feel your body in this space.

Who invented this *&%$# thing?

What ever happened to my silent friend, The Rake?

Breathe. Let it go.

This too shall pass.

Remember the teacher said find calm within chaos,

Breathe.          I bet he didn’t have leaf blower man

                         nextdoor.

Inhale.

Exhale.

For the Thursday d’Verse challenge. My first contrapuntal poem. Contrapuntal are poems that intertwine two (or more) separate poems into a single composition.

Wilted

Worry wilted

thirsting for words

a poem to drink from.

Those 5 step directions cannot quench

my parched soul.

I seek the forest

sit as the birds sing me

verses of satisfaction

and the leaves shade

me with understanding

I have yet learned

to give myself.

Dwelling Place

image

Inside the conversation of contribution

my favorite place to dwell

walls like soft bubble gum that can expand

with the breath of new ideas

to watch you poke, prod, punch

a fist through the wall

on your face the surprised realization

of the awe-filled fluidity, stretched elastic

boundaries you once believed to be walls of stone.

How a soft blow, like cooling off your tea too hot

can open up a whole new room. High rounded ceilings

with space to grow into.

My favorite place to be is inside a coaching conversation listening for another’s dreams. This was a tough idea to capture in a photo. Photo Challenge: Favorite Place

Tough Exterior

image

rusted rails, a cage to keep others out

no second chances, a cost too great

alone in the elements, hardened by hurt

not the last turn

just a mistaken dead end sign

wonder yourself free, between the bars

look up, before you lies a light of awe

to melt your heart free.

Out of this world

Wonder

Trust

IMG_0989

After what seems like

forever darkness

light comes back again

each bud tilts toward warmth

layers fall open with ease

not because they were told, “It is time.”

facing the sun… their hearts knew.

Trust yourself. Your heart knows the way forward.

– Forgiving Fridays on Forgiving Connects

Slightly to the right

One step to the right

not a stretch, just a nudge

shift of weight to the side.

One step away

between worry and wonder

landscape of exhaustion

or possibility.

Not a marathon, nothing to train for,

just one

small

step.

Get your shoes on.

wonder is waiting.

Unwind

Thinking in reverse

months tip, like dominos

to revisit that summer day.

Longing for this cleansing pool,

offering of chilled calmness

encircled by stone, here I joined

the river of slow movement,

pulling at my rapid pulse.

Plucking the notes ever slower.

Heartbeat dissolving

until I was

just being

water.

Dependable

IMG_6057

Upright they stand

(weathered and disregarded)

thinking themselves powerful.

Vulnerable to elements and eyes

yet never losing their dignity.

It is clarity of purpose that

leaves them self assured

while the landscape

is transformed around them.

They will forever remain

side by side, dependable

a community of stone.
