Around the Corner

She overcame

her internal screaming toddler,

“I don’t wanna. I don’t wanna.”

Will Power offered a hand

linking her arm in his

to lead around the corner.

Her first step through

this now open door

a route unavailable

to her past self.

Inhale

Enlight24

Breath from within me

floats out to join yours,

to settle on the brown ground beside

join the atmosphere’s chorus

sing with your exhale.

The tree we sit beneath

is not excluded

from this song.

Lightly soft it hums

new life down upon us.

Static on the radio

world leaders move their pieces,

play the game of war.

Under the tree

we continue to breathe each other.

Are you willing?

Beyond imagination.

Outside of your current image.

Your reflection lies in the eyes of others.

The eyes of those that surround

looking back at you.

See yourself there

to know where you are heading.

Awakening

Enlight38

My eyes upon

what my body can do

in this now.

Gratitude for fingers that write.

Legs that walk me into the world.

A hand that can hold yours.

This migrating temple I possess.

A shell washed clean on sand

Your lips brushed across mine.

The aliveness that quickens.

Awe to wake up again.

Snapshot

You look but don’t see

me. Within your view

invisible to your eyes.

Discomfort or unconscious

choice. I cannot be a character

in the story of your world.

Revisit the snapshot

years later, silhouetted,

my image lives.

Don’t believe everything you think.

When you visit the land of your own thinking.

Shocked by what you see

tip toe between the lines of your history

so as not to waken them

these tales from the past

will inquire of your intentions.

Take a flashlight

when you visit your thoughts.

It can be eerily dark inside,

a tangle of paths to lose your way.

No one to question doubts

remind you of the courageous act

of responsibility taken just last week.

Step with care, lightly

as you lift, poke and dig.

Leave some music playing in the room

to find your way out.

Your First Home

Have you ever sat by the sea

listened to the voice in the waves

accompanied by the underwater drummers

pulling you back to a time

before words were spoken

a time of simultaneous floating

while anchored

a return to your first home

before your feet ever walked the earth?

Rest

hall-212840_1920

Something other than sleep

more like jumping into water of coolness.

Not dreamland, but renewal of returning,

more like the thrill of meeting someone new,

in the skin of an old friend.

Diversion from daily tunnels of thought.

When was the last time your bare feet felt

the smooth tile of the lobby?

The feel of breath leaving your body

an elevator going down

a return to the ground floor.

An entrance to rest.
