Resilience

To open, fold back each layer

expose your inner colors

is nothing small.

I see courage in your willingness

to fully bloom. Expose the tender.

A relentless showing under a threatening sky.

After the loss of petals, burnt leaves.

You still choose the sun over fear

knowing the rains never stop

and summer doesn’t last.

Tough Exterior

image

rusted rails, a cage to keep others out

no second chances, a cost too great

alone in the elements, hardened by hurt

not the last turn

just a mistaken dead end sign

wonder yourself free, between the bars

look up, before you lies a light of awe

to melt your heart free.

Out of this world

Wonder

Unwind

image

Thinking in reverse

months tip, like dominos

to revisit that summer day.

Longing for this cleansing pool,

offering of chilled calmness

encircled by stone, here I joined

the river of slow movement,

pulling at my rapid pulse.

Plucking the notes ever slower.

Heartbeat dissolving

until I was

just being

water.

Contentment

She lived in a dented silver trailer

plainly, without shine inside and out.

The window view of sea

filled her need for decoration.

Constant rhythm of wave reassurance

ever evolving color of cloud, mist, fog

always filled her with belonging.

Passersby with lipfrowning judgement

downcast look of sadness at her dwelling

would never know her truth.

She had found her community of paradise

between wind and simplicity.

Silence

Almost Tangible

He made the plain and simple

a view of miraculous. With just

a touch. All became encased overnight

by a spell of magic.

A landscape of tiny glass castles.

Her damp feet, nourished soul

left her with a wondering, as if

it almost never happened.

Had winter sun

melted her glass slippers away?

ALMOST

Leaf Man

IMG_7118

He brings me leaves, one each day
a contrast in shape
varied vibrancy, coral to ripe peach
left on the kitchen counter
until evening arrives at our window.

Held in his palm, this single
donation, color story of today.
Our eyes meet the wrinkles, textured hues, imperfect edges.
Our hands hold a temporary prize between us
a cherishing.

Trees give without expecting
something in return. Thankfully,
so does he.
