Where to go to return
to the tranquil, a friend
you used to know so well?

Hours spent creekside
holding rocks, one by one
their colors glow wet with water

slowing your breath with
the simple love for a moment
of just being alive.

  1. I love the idea of sitting by the water, just slowly picking up rocks one by one, feeling the surface, noticing the rings or splotches of dampness…so meditative in my mind….

    1. Lillian, I have always found this to be a calming experience. I have many fond memories of doing this during summer camping trips. Thanks for visiting. I hope my poem brought calm to your day.

      1. Well we have the Hudson River and the East River…but tranquil they are not. Actually there’s plenty of water, at least fountains, all over the place. And the Botanical Gardens. Even in Central Park or Riverside park there’s solitude to be had.

      1. I have a friend and we used to play the giving game. We would see how we could outgive each other with small tokens of affection like a bowl of soup or a fistfull of flowers. We’re neighbors and it is a lovely memory that your message brought to mind. Yes this just keeps on giving. Thank you.❤️
