Sandals in November – Poem by Ali Grimshaw

They called her crazy
an attempt to freeze
her with jeers,
never understanding
that she chose to avoid
too much comfort.

Empathy
would always be
her closest friend.
Arm in arm, they would
walk in sandals
through November frost.

Warmed only by desire
for connection.

A step toward those
who had no shoes.

  1. Why not sandals in November? I once did this at work and what a time I had trying to explain myself! I just liked the sandals, they matched my outfit. A powerful message skilfully delivered!

    1. Each of us chooses a path. Some step toward understanding the paths that others take and some have yet to become curious about why some live differently. Thank you for sharing your reflection. It is always appreciated.
