Swimming upstream
feeling the pull
of this current
day of decisions
to be made.
Kicking away
troubled tributaries
“You will regret this.” They say.
Where is my ladder through?
(even fish get one of those)
I guess God must think
me an excellent swimmer.

Sometimes we all feel like this, I think, and it can be scary. But the good news is that we often “grow” when we’re swimming against the current and sometimes that growth is worth it. Well said, and I am sending good wishes your way too.

Ann,
I agree. We grow stronger swimming against the current. I am remembering today that I can get out on the bank and rest when needed. I forget this sometimes.
Glad to hear that you found my words relatable. I always appreciate hearing your thoughts.

Love this! We must never let the difficulty of a chosen path convince us otherwise. Let us chase our dreams. Exquisite write, Ali 💝💝

Beverly,
I love poetry because it leaves the reader to take from the words what most speaks to her in the moment.
I know in my heart that I always have a choice in how I view challenges before me. I can see them as an opportunity to grow with love and believe that I am strong enough to do so. Somedays I doubt my ability to manage the current I am swimming.

Yes, be careful which voices you listen to and keep on swimming your own way.

“Kicking away” those “troubled tributaries” is key, and I can relate to your ending, too. Contrary to what God seems to believe, I can hardly swim! XD

Oh my, your comment got me chuckling. I guess we are always stronger than we think we are. We just have to keep breathing in love then paddling forward or chose to get out of the river and walk. Have a great day.

Ivor,
Yes, she is showing her real self.
I am in transition and that is always full of strong currents and muddy waters.
Hope you are well.

Carrie, thanks for positive response. This didn’t feel like a wow poem when I wrote it but it did feel true to how I am experiencing today. I am always surprised how writing a poem can open doors in my thinking so the light can shine in.
I miss you. I hope you are tending your heart with care.
