Revolutionary – A Poem by Ali Grimshaw

“Forgiveness is an act of the will, and the will can function regardless of the temperature of the heart.”
― Corrie Ten Boom

a revolution of forgiveness
began echoing across

gently lit faces gathered
in the town square

hushed quietude for the promises
made together

then an overthrow
of rioting apologies

collapsed into laughter

leaving behind
their winter battlecoats of blame

they left warmer
arm in arm

  1. I feel warmer just reading your poem, Ali. Why is forgiveness so hard when it achieves so much? The outcome MORE than justifies any discomfort. Thank you for gently and creatively pointing that out.

    1. Nancy,
I missed your comment until today. I appreciate your question. Yes, why is it so difficult for us to forgive?
It is an act of love for ourselves and for others that is definitely worth our effort.
      Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
      Wishing you a beautiful day.

  2. Ah, love. And I am old enough to have, when a child, heard Corrie Ten Boom speak in person. I have found that the more I practice true forgiveness, the more I realize how I am changed for good. Good word. Thank you, Jane

  3. Oh yes, my kind of revolution, Ali: a revolution of forgiveness! And how the tide turned to apologies and laughter! We need to find a magic potion tor this and put it in the water supply all over the world.
