Flaming – Poem by Ali Grimshaw

“The fire of a heart that loves is a flame that will never be put out.” – Anita Brooks

first you need to finish the falling
let your pain bleed out all its colors
let each vein be filled
let each edge receive the final flow

the leaves are showing you
how beauty flames in seasons

will you see yourself

yourself yearning

to fall free

you can't begin again until you have left
the branch you cling to

      1. From The Flame, page 12, ‘Undertow’

        “I set out one night
        When the tide was low
There were signs in the sky
        But I did not know
I’d be caught in the grip
        Of the undertow

        Ditched on a beach
Where the sea hates to go
With a child in my arms
And a chill in my soul
        And my heart the shape
        Of a begging bowl”
