Replenishment

Please return the glass bowl
the one with the orange lid.

Surely it is empty now, alone
on the shelf or behind the rice jar.

It is not that I am in need,
I just found myself thinking

of its emptiness, a hollow of cold.
Loneliness I wish to fill with warmth of soup.

One spoon of comfort at a time
to refill yourself

on Tuesday night
after the day’s work is done.

Campaign to End Loneliness

Daily prompt – Age

Harmony in the Trees

image

The tree colors sing in unison

settle my rattled soul

unlike any music

ever heard.

This orchestra of leaves

soothes the tempo

that pounds from a

day of instruments

that refused to play

the same song.

Learning to Dive

One day I finally knew that I could swim

in the blue of the sky.

That I was as strong as I declared myself to be.

That my fears were teachers made just for me.

That there would always be cracks to slip through

times of trembling, shaken awake to fall again.

Then I stood next to the lake,

a mirror of blue sky wholeness,

arms wide with acceptance

I, the problem and solution

dove into a

reflection of release.

A Mindful Vacation

I am resharing this poem today in honor of National Relaxation Day. One long slow breath. Try it out.

Ali Grimshaw's avatarflashlight batteries - Ali Grimshaw

Between each breath
one, maybe two seconds at most,
a tiny space of nothingness.
My passport can’t get me there.
Driving faster, running harder,
multitasking while eating lunch
working later, doing more…
no closer to my destination.

“Where would you like to travel to?” they ask.

someplace between
inhale
and exhale.
