Beginning

Wrap yourself in the miracle of this sunrise.

Open eyes

Open ears

Open heart

Cry for even one life that is not yet free

unable to see the sun.

A stranger arrives at the bus stop.

“How’s your morning going?”

Look into his eyes, instead of away

as he answers.

Ask him if he saw the sunrise.

What is the cost of waiting?

“In spite of the flames of tragedy, a poem is a glowing ember, making visible the power of hope, and the human spirit. We must not only read and watch, we are called by the poet to bring the flame back to the ember, to do what we can to help people not only to survive, but to thrive.” – Why Poetry Matters from Huffington Post

Want Ad

Wanted:

A listener.

Intent on feeling instead of hearing my words.

Eager to sift out the ones I have outgrown

return those that call my name, carry me forward,

speak them like a trail to follow when I am lost.

Will utter truth even when it cracks my surface.

Incapable of withholding even a syllable of himself

with the knowing it will suffocate our tomorrows.

Who will remember my voice,

long after I’ve gone.

Curiosity a must.

Love is never closed for business.

With love there is always room at the table.

Bring what you have to share

even if it is just a memory, a song.

Together we will make a meal to feed

not just our stomachs

our souls shall be satisfied

nourished through connection.

Your stories on my tongue

sweet and savory.

Will you be a rainbow?

Not qualified, no certificate, diploma

just a person, regular, no one special.

Who me? I don’t know how. Where would I start?

Listen. Open your heart. Look. Open your eyes.

An opportunity right in front of you. Yes, right there.

It won’t matter. I don’t count. It’s too late.

No one ever tires of a rainbow coming through the clouds.

Your colors impossible to see from an internal view

vivid in the eyes of those waiting.

Dr. Maya Angelou – Thank you for reminding me that I can be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud and to take all the rainbows of my life with me wherever I go.

With gratitude.

In January 2016 I chose to begin sharing my poems publicly.  This was scary but I am glad that I took the leap. I never knew that I would end up connecting with people around the world when I started to blog. It has been the best adventure of this year of living. I am in celebration and gratitude to VerseWrights for publishing six of my poems today. VerseWrights is a wonderful daily, online poetry journal.  Thank you to all my readers and for those that support poetry.  Let’s keep the communication going around the world. PEACE is possible.

Sending love across lands and oceans,

Ali

It’s not possible

Can there ever be too much whole face listening,

a time when acknowledgement was no longer needed,

when kindness was overdone?

No desire for extra hands to lighten the load?

A day when being vulnerable was a waste of courage?

Letting another see your frailty a chance not worth taking?

A moment of too much love?

Walk out onto your street and look.

Those downcast eyes are the reply.

Run now, its not too late.
