Something you can count on.

The sky

it is never not there

will not leave a note goodbye

to disappear in the night.

Serenely blue, growl of gray

watercolored clouds a tumble

dependably ever-changing, yet

never forsaking.

When the curtain goes up at sunrise

a steadfast performance

worthy of an audience.

Don’t miss the show.

No tickets necessary.

#Loveuary  Challenge – Celebrating today with a love poem for the sky.

The future of heartbreak

“How do you keep your heart whole?” he asked. “I can’t bear the breaking.”

“You don’t,” she whispered. “Let it crack open,

like a ruby pomegranate full of moments you have been alive.
Tear away the soft sides, let the jeweled pieces scatter.

They will be found.  Picked up by the parched,
carried forward into days where hearts
will be strong enough to break, expand.”

“I am not that strong.” he said, shaking his head.

Tearing off a part of her own heart.

“Take some of my mine, you will be.”

#Loveuary – share the love this month with But I Smile Anyway…

When change comes …

Waking to a foreign experience

like a transplanted language

that spread through the city while I slept.

I used to trust myself to know the way

right turn, then straight, always on course.

Within my country, I thought I knew where I was.

Now my GPS offers no help. No translation available.

Consistent landscape. Buildings in place

yet unrecognizable to my inner navigation.

My compass now cracked, unable to orient

true North now lies

inside me.

Discovery Challenge – Conventional Wisdom

Holding Hands

image

As we stand together

the ocean’s roar a comfort

lullaby of constant.

You squeeze my hand.

I echo the motion.

Reliable rolling waves,

we count on

when the world is crashing.

The Daily Post Photo Challenge – Ambience

Sending a package

I will write you blue sky

sunlight on yellow flowers.

I will write you a single snowflake

magnified in all its delicate brilliance.

I will write you a cocoon of comfort

a blanket of love you have never known

a full envelope, arriving on the wind, for the day

you need it most.

Liberation To Come

Within this cold capsule

seen but unable to expand

my frozen limbs ache with

limitations of movement.

Let me thaw, stinging with pleasure

extending all the way to my toes.

To dance in the breeze again.

Pic and a word challenge – Winter

Bouncing Bullets

Slanderous words,

sharp and sticky abound.

Potentially murderous voices shoot out

yet ricochet off the innocent assemblage

surrounded by love, like bubble wrap.

A deadly collection of letters,

bouncing back to their owners.

While the souls remain

cloaked in truth,

“Those words aren’t us.”

No need for bulletproof vests to repel them.

Let them decay on the street

the street cleaner will dispose of them

before morning light.
