Never preoccupied by screens screaming

unknown friends, nor business buzzing heads.

Mine sit in wait, pocket ready, stacked bedside,

cursive faded on the bathroom mirror. Ever-ready

to ask courageous questions, reassuring palms

warmly press down on my shoulders. They lead

remind from behind, cocoon me from nightmare bombs

and disappearing green, when my inside raisins.

Trustworthy friends of ink, folded and unfolded

because the need is so great.

This poem was inspired by the following quote from John Adams. “You will never be alone with a poet in your pocket.”

Love Louder

Can two words be enough,

make a poem on their own

to shake the passers by awake.

Just a couple, woven into

the fabric of an ordinary day?

Please tell me they can.

Thank you Ghost City Review for publishing my poem, The Passing Judgement Of Those Walking By, this month. Ghost City Press is based in Syracuse, NY. Their goal is to provide a platform for the exhibition of work by new and emerging writers and artists in the online literary community. They publish writers who understand the complexities of the world we live in and who reflect this in their work.

We all have poetry inside us. How different the world would be if this were believed.

Make yours a day of wondrous words.

Between the lines

Hawaii 2013 159

line straight as the horizon, faintly blue as sky meets sea

each edge, finger-width apart, to contain the message

my words lay cushioned by these guiding layers

some smeared by effort of my own hand

it was not by accident that I wrote to you

between the lines and not on them.

our relationship never occupied spaces

defined by rules of in or out.

Dream of Love

IMG_5748

Awake in the darkness

with a different kind of knowing.

One of souls connected in an absence of time.

Understanding not limited by words.

A sigh that offers comfort,

only possible from the deep inhale proceeding it.

Melding without becoming one.

A miracle of wholeness from separate beings.

Valentine’s Day 2016

Life is short …

Enlight1

My poem, Visiting With Chaoshas been published today on Vita Brevis. This literary magazine is dedicated to revive and nourish the rich existential literature that forms when art and the human endeavor collide. Thank you Vita Brevis for supporting the community of writers.  Through poetry we can calm our minds, share the human experience and laugh together to keep our sanity. Life is short, poetry helps make the most of it.

An additional thank you to Carl who first published this poem on  Versewrights .

Make it a beautiful day.

Remain

IMG_6134

To lose you

would be a sea without waves

moan of Winter wind

outside as I lay cold in bed.

To lose you

would be the wilt of wildflowers

a bow of small heads around the globe.

My eyes squeezed shut

effort of not remembering.

To lose you

would be loss for those

yet to hear your hearty chuckle,

low and warm

its own kind of song.

Message

Enlight12
Let me send my love
to float lightly on the wind.
A force that sails ships across the ocean.
Let my kisses evaporate into the clouds.
When they reach your shore,
love will rain down upon you.

Harmony in the Trees

image

The tree colors sing in unison

settle my rattled soul

unlike any music

ever heard.

This orchestra of leaves

soothes the tempo

that pounds from a

day of instruments

that refused to play

the same song.
