Tough Exterior

image

rusted rails, a cage to keep others out

no second chances, a cost too great

alone in the elements, hardened by hurt

not the last turn

just a mistaken dead end sign

wonder yourself free, between the bars

look up, before you lies a light of awe

to melt your heart free.

Out of this world

Wonder

No More Tears

Do your eyes remain dry

cried out from
tears for the one
and one
and one
another one
and years of the countless

ones?

Those ones that were the most precious one
to someone.

My heart beats in you this day as tears run down my face.

Grief’s hand must change
what hope will never be able to.

Before all eyes have run dry.

Words are inadequate after another US school shooting. Still I try in the honor of those who fight for change and the grief that countless others must bare.

I hear it.

among the fallen plaster

disrepair, wrinkles of error

some may think irredeemable

not broken beyond salvage

surrendered in thick layers

your heart lies beating.

I hear it.

My light is shining

I am again honored to have a poem published by Vita Brevis, The New Poetry Magazine. My poem Rest is up today.  Rest is a constant seeking in our world by so many with weary hearts. If you are feeling frazzled, wired-tired and seeking escape then you are not alone. Take time to connect with another human, sit with quiet, or listen to a poem.

Sending love and support

by way of clouds

that surround us all

with protection.

Ali

Replenishment

Please return the glass bowl
the one with the orange lid.

Surely it is empty now, alone
on the shelf or behind the rice jar.

It is not that I am in need,
I just found myself thinking

of its emptiness, a hollow of cold.
Loneliness I wish to fill with warmth of soup.

One spoon of comfort at a time
to refill yourself

on Tuesday night
after the day’s work is done.

Campaign to End Loneliness

Daily prompt – Age

Message

Enlight12
Let me send my love
to float lightly on the wind.
A force that sails ships across the ocean.
Let my kisses evaporate into the clouds.
When they reach your shore,
love will rain down upon you.

Seeking a Brain Transplant

img_0226
She covets the minds of others,
organized, tidy, check the box off
followers of clear roads
neatly folded maps
who open to straight paths
traveling without distraction
of multiple dead ends
confusion of curlicues
to land efficiently
destination, spot on time.
Dreary haunts of defeat
her relapse into darkness
a mind off course, tunneling elsewhere
moving toward an endless horizon
without a line between earth and sky
to distinguish
what hole she fell into
this time.
This is a revised version of the poem published on Versewrights Looking back and rewriting this as a process of reflection and celebration. Thank you Versewrights for sharing my poems with your readers. Today I encourage you to embrace your process over the temporary product. The my last page has not been written yet.
Please share a poem that you have rewritten in the comments section. Let me give space to acknowledge your process.

Round and Round

IMG_6480

Jump,            leap,                crawl and claw

there is a world outside

the hamster wheel.

You can step off,    drop chains of thought

fall into peace.

Your forgotten power,       remains inside,

no superhero costume

necessary.

Only willingness,   rejection of old pattern,

refusal of squeaky wheel,

one step,                                         to the side.

Distraction

image

Blurred branches of feeling

the intersection of “Not good enough,”

and “You fell for that again?”

awkward limbs that cross

and cross again in confusion. While inches

of growth reach, stretch toward light.

The turbulent angles discretely covered

by feathered orange deliciousness.

A fancy distraction,

just like my sunglasses and hat

a layer of colors,

the perfect cover up to keep

my crack of failure private.
