Chasing Waterfalls – Poem by Ali Grimshaw

choices round
choices flat
choices show us
where we're at

choices lead us to the door
choices call us
scream for more

choices encircle or fence some out
choices whisper
sometimes shout

It is up to you
what you find
to open up
or close your mind.

I am not sure what happened today. I never write rhyming poems.
This one wouldn't let me go.

Why write together? – Poem by Ali Grimshaw

because time is slippery
memories mingle with worries
when the pen lies dormant

because others are mirrors of magnitude
shining back the full spectrum
of light in each of us

because when was the last time
you made an appointment to savor
the words of your own heart?

Beckoning – Poem by Ali Grimshaw

turning the page
tilts my story's full, first half

daybreak spills, spreading

past pages highlighted
scribbled, dog-eared

moldable mornings
of my middle life

a return route mapped
for when memory fades

my shadow lengthens
I am far past sunrise

now imagination holds
the pen

Daybreak – Poem by Ali Grimshaw

Sauvie Island, Oregon. Summer 2022

Each day a chance
for new green to reach us
for listening to happen in a way
that has never happened before.

For air to clear.
And for us to come together
instead of apart.

For healing to blossom
forgiveness heard, shame shifting
to break the cycle of old chains.

For mirroring your love
revealing how your eyes
have seen me forward.

For rebalancing of Earth and sky
an atmosphere where all living things
breathe without fear of suffocation.

For dormancy to begin again
or throw off its covers
to jump out of bed.

For someone to return home
or find a home
or be welcomed to a home
for the very first time.

Inherited – Poem by Ali Grimshaw

“What we carry defines who we are. And the effort we make is our legacy.” ~Mitch Albom

I carry
your laugh.
How it starts small, a rolling whisper
then snowballs to a full round of roaring joy.

I carry
your hands.
How your fingers thread mine
snug and loose at the same time woven.

I carry
your story memories
holding me gently close
while always leaving breathing room
growth space for my expansion.

Begin – Poem by Ali Grimshaw

pull the small metallic triangle
tear through troubles
until tingle arrives
until you are fully unwrapped
leaving anxious ribbons
tinseled tension
trailed behind

bare-skinned, beaming, braver
than the last version
greet your new shadow-self
welcome possibilities

many stones of adventure
lay at your feet

gather with those – Poem by Ali Grimshaw

“some of us don’t want to be
tough alpha leaders.
some of us just want to write
and wander
the garden
and breathe in the sky
and nourish and nurture
and quietly create
new pathways
and live our
lives as art.
to know the earth
as poetry.”
-victoria erickson, rhythms and rhymes
and so I seek those
who are willing to show blooming
and wilting, burnt edges
and randomly exposed roots

they are the ones
the ones who know how
to listen until the last days

gleaning joy from
what is

Have you heard? – Poem by Ali Grimshaw

say what you find in the deep moss of your feet
a lush immersion of aliveness long forgotten
like leaves caressing your childhood cheek

follow the movement of this forest vocabulary
a language that you have yet to dance with
are you willing to give yourself over

to sit with the fallen nurse logs
to listen for the tall evergreen guardians
to days of foresttime

absent from hours or minutes ticking
filled instead by croaks, sways, gurgles
music accessible to the practiced ear

you will feel it coming
a cooling shift of rainclouds
the beginning of your roots
being welcomed in

Buoyancy – Poem by Ali Grimshaw

dawn goddess
celebrator of the hopeful

Aurora offers cresting radiance
beams definitively sky filled
breaking over mountains dim

a daily gesture of newness
of beginnings yet to be

let her shine on you
morning overflowing

fill your cup with levity
walk lightly through heaviness

Find Your Flow – Poem by Ali Grimshaw

Swimming upstream
feeling the pull
of this current
day of decisions
to be made.

Kicking away
troubled tributaries

“You will regret this.” They say.

Where is my ladder through?
(even fish get one of those)

I guess God must think
me an excellent swimmer.
